PAMA 2020 Competition Rules and Regulations

1. OBJECTIVES
 
The purpose of the competition is to allow for the observation of mental arithmetic skills from all countries, to promote abacus and mental arithmetic education, and to improve friendships among participants from around the world.

5. ENROLLMENT

 

5.1     Enrollment Period: From now on until September 30th, 2019

· Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept any late registration.

 

5.2     Members of PAMA will collect all application, photos and any related documents of respective regions and e-mail them to PAMA Thailand on or before 30 September 2019

6. REGISTRATION FEE

 

6.1 Contestant: US $90.00, this includes the registration fee and lunch on the day of the competition

6.2  Parents, teachers and family members will be charged US $35 per person for lunch

6.3 Admission Fee: For people who do not want to use lunch, there will be a US $10 fee for venue admission.

7. COMPETITION CONTENT, DIVISION AND STANDARD

 

7.1     Each PAMA member countries should send at least 5 contestants to the competition.

7.2     All Champion of Champions winners in the 18th PAMA Competition (2018) must advance to the next higher level.

7.3     Contestants register according to the following provisions (listed below). Organizer reserves the right to disqualify contestants if any violation of rules is found.

7.4     There has been changes to ages in this competition. Please pay close attention.

8.1   Refer to the table for distribution of the awards. The coach of each group’s Champion of Champions will receive the “The Best Coach Award”.

8.2   When there are multiple students who finish with the same scores, their final ranks will be determined by the tie-break (7th paper).        

8.3    If there are students who receive the same scores on the tie-breaker, they will complete an 8th paper to determine the final ranking. The 8th paper will use the same format as the tie-breaker, but students only have 45 seconds.

8.4    Students need to achieve a minimum score of 300 points to receive a trophy.

8.5    Champion of Champions from each group will receive a scholarship of $100 US from the Secretariat

 

9. ATTENTION

 

9.1     The hosting member appoints judges of the competition.

9.2     The judges’ decisions are final. Once decisions are made, they will not be reversed.

9.3     All contestants should attend the Awards Ceremony. The final score will be announced at the ceremony.

9.4     The hosting country and its honored guests will present the awards.

9.5     Certificates will be distributed to member countries during the post competition meeting.

11. Flash Computer Tournament

The additional competition this year is the flash computer tournament. Every contestant can participate in this elimination contest. There are 10 questions in round 1 (1D or 2D, 5-10 rows, addition/subtraction mental). Contestants who answer 6 out of 10 correctly can advance to round 2. There are 15 questions in round 2 (including 2D / 3D mental addition / subtraction x 5Q; 2D x 1D & 3D x 1D mental multiplication x 5 Q; 3D÷1D & 4D÷1D mental division x 5Q). Students who answer 10 out of 15 questions correctly can advance to round 3. The tournament will continue until we have 10 contestants remaining on stage. Champion x 1; 1st runner up x 3, 2nd runner up x 6. The 10 contestants will each receive a trophy and a certificate.

 

 

12. JOURNAL OF THE COMPETITION

 

Each member country is required to submit 5 pages of information along with contest applications to the host country before 30 September 2019. These will be printed and given out on the day of the competition. Contents are as follows:

12.1     Congratulatory remarks – 1 page

12.2     Photos of activities – 2 pages

12.3     Successful Abacus and Mental Arithmetic teaching experiences and comments – 2 pages

 

 

13. MISCELLANEOUS

13.1   Any changes to contest groups must be submitted before 15th October 2019. Otherwise they will not be accepted.

13.2   Each country member can also appoint 1 member to take pictures of individuals or group members at the award presentation ceremony. (They will be given an identification tag) Host: take pictures and video.

13.3   Host country will provide copies of the videos and photos of the PAMA competition and award presentation ceremony

13.4   Member countries that have fewer than 10 contestants will receive only one Contribution Award. Member countries that have more than 10 contestants will receive two Contribution Award. Contribution Award plaques will be presented to all country members by the host. If more than two awards are needed for one country, production costs will be charged.

 

 

14. ANY ADDITIONAL RULES OR GUIDELINES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN MENTIONED ABOVE WILL BE NOTED AND UPDATED IN FUTURE ANNOUCEMENT.
